Letter from Australian Twelves - Balmain Regatta

June 04, 2013

On behalf of the crews and skippers of the KA5 Australia and KA14 Steak N Kidney, I would like to pass on our thanks and appreciation for inclusion in the Balmain Regatta 2012.

The two 12 metre class yachts (KA5 Australia & KA14 Steak N Kidney) proved to be well matched in the light breeze, giving our members and guests an excellent racing experience.  Although the weather did not look brilliant at the start, it gave way to sunshine and better breeze.

Both KA5 Australia and KA14 Steak N Kidney enjoyed close racing with one another throughout the race, with some spectacular 12 metre tacking and gybing throughout the event!  With the 90% jib's the two twelves were unable to keep pace with Gretel II, however, still enjoyed a great match race between each other!

The Balmain Sailing Club guests who joined us for the day, all participated in the hands-on racing of these two classic yachts, gaining a strong insight into the world of 12 metre class match racing.  They all performed superbly and impressed our skippers with their quick learning and crewing abilities.

During the post-regatta festivities our crews were approached by many Balmain Sailing Club members who were interested in the 12 metres and our activities.  Already we have received a number of membership applications.  I am looking forward to seeing more Balmain Sailing Club members as part of our calendar of activities.

Again, I would like to thank the Balmain Sailing Club for a wonderful day of racing and look forward to future invitations to participate with the club.  Any photographs that the Balmain Sailing Club could provide, would be greatly appreciated for our facebook page and members website.

Thank you again.

Best regards,
