A Message from the Commodore
G’Day, my name is John Blair and I’m the Commodore of Balmain Sailing Club. If you are considering becoming a member of our club, let me encourage you to do so. You will be part of a rather unique club with a proud history. The club was originally formed in 1885 and despite appearances, few original members remain… We pride ourselves on a relaxed, friendly atmosphere with delightful facilities built out over the water and free casual mooring available right next to the club. We are the only club in the area with Twilight Racing on Friday night, which is just a perfect way to lead into the weekend… a race around the Islands of the upper harbour followed by your choice of meal from the nights menu or a drink from the bar, whilst watching the sun go down over the water and Cockatoo Island.
We have 3 yacht divisions and a dinghy division in our Friday Twilights (Spring and Summer) providing the right level of competition you’re looking for. We also race every other Sunday year round with special events including the Annual Balmain Regatta. Joining us at Balmain Sailing Club also gives you reciprocal rights to race at Drummoyne Sailing Club the alternate Sundays throughout the year. If your moored in the area, we also provide transport to and from you yacht on race days.
All members receive complimentary food and drink vouchers on joining for use in the club, free invitation to regular information and training evenings (subjects can be sail trim, race rules, race tactics…), discounts on Balmain Sailing School fees, monthly mailing of the Club magazine. For boat owners, membership also includes discounts off the regular race fees and use of the club pontoon to moor for limited periods and have access to power and water for working on your yacht.
I have been a member of Balmain Sailing Club for 10 years and it has been a most enjoyable and rewarding place to become part of as well as a great place to sail from. I urge you to join us. If you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to ask me or one of the club’s committee members.
