You are encouraged to take part the Heaven Can Wait 24 Hour Charity Race: www.heavencanwait.com.au.
Balmain Sailing Club currently has 4 boats competing in this year's Heaven Can Wait (HCW) Charity Regatta on Lake Macquarie on October 2-3.
Three boats, Cheshire Cat, Kelly II and Windchaser, are competing in the 24 hour race. Seventh Wave is competing in the One Lap Dash.
All three boats in the 24 hour race are also looking for crew -- at least one extra crew member for each. No particular skills are being sought; just that you have some reasonable sailing skills and are comfortable being on a boat for 24 hours. It's certainly excellent experience for anyone looking to do some night sailing, in protected waters (although with some navigation challenges) and plenty of on-water support.
If you would like to offer yourself as crew, please contact Mark Cherrington (
mark.p.cherrington@gmail.com, phone 0419 236 704) and he'll co-ordinate with the other skippers.
Even if you aren't available as crew, please consider supporting the Balmain boats in their fundraising efforts. The HCW Charity Regatta raises funds for the Cancer Council NSW, forcancer research and support programs, with a particular emphasis on men's cancers. Some funds are also directed by the Cancer Council to Marine Rescue Lake Macquarie, which provides on-water support for the event.
Each boat entering the race has its own fund-raising webpage through the EveryDayHero online fundraising website. This site is fully endorsed by the Cancer Council. All donations are fully tax deductible, and a tax receipt is automatically generated and emailed to you immediately.
